Compress a video to an exact file size
Pick the size you need, 20 MB for Discord or 25 MB for Gmail, and get an MP4 that really fits. It is measured after encoding and encoded again if it went over.

How to compress a video to a specific size
- Choose your video. It opens in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere.
- Pick a target. Use a preset or type any size in MB. The page shows the resolution and bitrate it plans to use.
- Click Compress and download. The result is measured, re-encoded if it went over, and offered with its final size.
When you need a video to fit a limit
- DiscordFree accounts can upload up to 20 MB per file, so clips from games or phones often need shrinking.
- EmailGmail allows 25 MB in attachments, and larger files turn into a Drive link. A smaller video attaches like any other file.
- Forms and portalsJob applications, schools and support sites often accept only 10 or 50 MB.
- Private recordingsFamily videos or work meetings do not need to pass through a stranger’s server just to get smaller.
How the size target works
File size is simply bitrate multiplied by duration. The page divides your target by the length of the video, sets aside a little for audio and the container, and uses the rest for the picture. If that bitrate would be too low for the original resolution, it scales the video down, because a sharp 720p looks better than a blocky 1080p. Encoders never hit a bitrate exactly, so the finished file is measured and, if needed, encoded again with a corrected bitrate.
Tips for the best quality
Trim what you do not need first: half the length means twice the bitrate. Removing the audio helps on very small targets. Fast motion and grain are the hardest to compress, while screen recordings stay clear at surprisingly low sizes.
Limitations
- It needs WebCodecs: recent Chrome and Edge work best; Safari and Firefox depend on the codecs they offer.
- Long videos at high resolution take time and memory, and phones are slower than computers. Keep the tab open.
- Only the main video and audio tracks are kept; subtitles and extra audio tracks are dropped.
- HDR videos may lose their HDR look when re-encoded.
- If your browser has no H.264 encoder, the result is a WebM file with VP9.
Frequently asked questions
Is this video compressor really free?
Yes. It is 100% free, with no usage limits, no watermark, no account and no sign-up. There is no paid plan and no feature is locked.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Your video is opened and processed inside your browser and never leaves your device. The page only downloads its own code from this site. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics receives anonymous usage data such as page views, never your video, its name or its contents.
How do I compress a video for Discord?
Choose the Discord preset, which targets the 20 MB limit for free accounts, and click Compress. Discord can change its limits, so if yours differs, enter the size under Custom.
How do I make a video small enough for email?
Choose the 25 MB preset for Gmail. Other providers often allow less, such as 20 MB, so use Custom if needed. Attachments grow by about a third when sent by email, and Gmail’s limit takes this into account, so aim lower if a message is rejected.
Will the file really be under the size I choose?
The finished file is measured. If it is over the target, the video is encoded again at a lower bitrate, and at a lower resolution if needed, for up to six passes. In the rare case it still does not fit, the page tells you plainly instead of claiming success.
Does compressing lose quality?
Yes, some. Any compression to a smaller size removes detail. The page spends the available size wisely by lowering the resolution when the bitrate would be too low for it. Longer videos at small targets will look softer: trimming helps more than anything else.
What counts as one MB here?
One million bytes, which is slightly less than some apps’ megabyte. This keeps the file safely under limits, whichever definition a service uses.
Why does it take longer than a website that uploads?
Your own device does the encoding. Speed depends on its power and on the video’s length, though you skip the upload and download entirely. Keep the tab open while it works.
Analytics: only if you accept cookies, the page loads Google Analytics (through Google Tag Manager) to count visits and see which tools are used. It never receives your videos, their names or their contents. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of the page.
