Rotate a video online

Fix a sideways or upside-down video in seconds. Normally the picture is not re-encoded, so there is no quality loss and no waiting.

How to rotate a video

  1. Choose your video. It opens right here; nothing is uploaded.
  2. Pick the rotation. Add a mirror if you need one.
  3. Click Rotate and download. Check the result on the page first.

Why videos end up sideways

Phones record the picture one way and store the orientation as a note in the file. If the phone misjudged how you were holding it, for example when filming while pointing down, or if an app dropped the note, the video plays sideways. Changing that note fixes the problem instantly, without touching the picture.

Limitations

Frequently asked questions

Is this video rotator really free?

Yes. It is 100% free, with no usage limits, no watermark, no account and no sign-up. There is no paid plan and no feature is locked.

Is my video uploaded?

No. Your video is opened and processed inside your browser and never leaves your device. The page only downloads its own code from this site. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics receives anonymous usage data such as page views, never your video, its name or its contents.

Does rotating a video lose quality?

Not by default. The video data is copied and the file gains an instruction telling players how to turn it. Mirroring or ticking “Rewrite the pixels” can re-encode the video, which loses a little quality.

A program still shows my video sideways. What now?

A few programs ignore the rotation instruction. Tick “Rewrite the pixels” and rotate the original again: the video is then re-encoded with the new orientation, which works everywhere.

How do I fix a video that is upside down?

Choose 180°. For a sideways video, choose 90° right or 90° left, whichever makes it upright. You can check the result on the page before downloading.

Can I mirror a video?

Yes. Tick “Mirror”, on its own or along with a rotation. It is handy for selfie videos that appear reversed.

Analytics: only if you accept cookies, the page loads Google Analytics (through Google Tag Manager) to count visits and see which tools are used. It never receives your videos, their names or their contents. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of the page.
